Open role
Senior Backend & Infrastructure Engineer
Remote·$9,060 – $11,325/month·Min. 30 hours/week
About the role
Currently, 100+ A.Team builders have been contributing to this mission since October, and as long as performance remains strong, the engagement is expected to continue throughout 2026.
This isn't a traditional DevOps role supporting a live product. Instead, the focus is on designing and building "hard" DevOps and backend engineering environments similar to the take-home assessment. The day-to-day work involves creating high-fidelity Linux/Docker-based scenarios where AI agents interact with a terminal to debug and solve complex system-level problems.
You'd be designing reproducible Docker environments (Python 3.12 runtime), introducing realistic infrastructure failures (CI/CD issues, dependency conflicts, permissions, networking, distributed service bugs), and ensuring tasks require multi-step reasoning rather than simple file edits. You'll also implement golden solutions and write functional pytest-based test suites to validate correctness, reproducibility, and difficulty thresholds.
The role includes refining environments for isolation, pinning dependencies for determinism, and running benchmark validations to ensure tasks meet difficulty standards.
We're looking for 5+ years of DevOps or backend experience, strong Linux systems depth, advanced Docker expertise, solid CI/CD knowledge, and strong Python (3.10+). Kubernetes, IaC, and observability experience are strong pluses.
Minimum 30 hrs/week (high performers often exceed 40).
Interview Process: The process is a 2-hour assessment, and if you pass, you'll be able to start on the project right after.
